Reducing Your Carbon Footprint with These 6 Tips

The average New Zealander emits over 10 tons of CO2 per year. This includes things like driving, heating our homes, eating meat, and flying. By reducing your consumption of fossil fuels, you can lower your carbon footprint.

Start by reducing your energy usage.

Reduce your energy usage by using less electricity and natural gas. If you live in an apartment building, ask your landlord to install more efficient appliances. You can also use timers and motion sensors to turn off lights when you leave a room.

Reduce food waste.

Food waste is one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), food waste accounts for approximately 14 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, food waste contributes to water pollution, soil erosion, and air pollution.

Switch to renewable energy sources.

There are several ways to reduce your carbon footprint. One of the easiest ways to reduce your carbon emissions is to switch to renewable energy sources. Renewable energy includes solar power, wind power, hydroelectricity, geothermal energy, biomass, and biofuels.

Offset yourself.
